2024 Senior Representative Trials

2024 Rep Trials Information:

This year the Senior Representative Trials will be a 2 part process.

The initial trial will be held on Thursday October 26th (Tuesday 14th Nov for U20s)

From this trial, Franklin Basketball will select a player pool for each age group that will progress next stage. This will be a  ‘pre season development program’ running for 6 weeks during Term 4 2023 (Week of October 30th - December 7th).

On completion of this development program players will progress into the final trial which will be held in late January 2024. From the final trial teams will be selected for the 2024 season.

Franklin Basketball have identified a need for greater investment into individual player development along with installing our key principles of play. This program is being heavily subsidised because we as an Association want to invest time & resources into our athletes. Due to our investment in this program we require ALL those involved to be COMMITTED to this process.

Welcome to our 2023 Off-Season Development Sessions.

We are excited to provide this opportunity to aspiring athletes who are interested in trying out for the Franklin Basketball Representative program in 2024. This program is specifically designed to enhance individual skills and foster a deep understanding of Franklin Basketball's core principles of play. Our program is built using the framework of the Constraints Led Approach coaching methodology, which encourages self-organisation, discovery, and empowers athletes to make informed decisions on the court. This program will be supported by the Head & Assistant Rep coaches for the 2024 seasons, who will implement crucial components of the FBA player Development framework, ensuring a comprehensive and impactful training experience.

Programme Non Negotiables:

RESPECT

This is the first thing you give - to players, coaches, and others. Our goal is to create a safe and inclusive learning environment where everyone feels welcome. Mutual respect is expected from all participants.

MAX EFFORT

Give 100% of your current capabilities. We embrace mistakes as part of the learning journey. We understand that individuals may not always perform at their peak, but regardless of your current level (70%, 60%, etc.), we expect players to give their full effort. Lack of effort will not be tolerated.

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OF YOUR OWN LEARNING

While coaches are here to guide you through the learning process, it is ultimately the athlete's responsibility to actively engage in their own development. Be an active participant by listening, asking questions, and discovering new insights.

COMMITMENT TO THE PROGRAM

Athletes who progress past trial #1 will be part of our player development. These sessions are primarily for the benefit of the players. Sessions are designed to enhance overall basketball abilities and understanding. However, it is crucial for athletes to attend in order to make progress. These sessions will also serve as evaluation opportunities leading up to the final trial in January. Players will be selected for teams based on two main factors: 1) their commitment to the program and 2) their overall merit. Additionally, it is worth mentioning the significant investment that FBA is making in this program. Similar development programs in Auckland typically range from $160 to $300.

Athletes who are in violation of these non negotiable will be subject to removal from the programme & trial process immediately.
