REFEREES

Referees are such an important part of the game as the game cannot take place without them so we are constantly developing new referees for all levels of the game within our region as well as for Basketball New Zealand tournaments.

Our process for new referees is:

  1. Take part in our two part Intro/Beginner Referee Course

  2. At least one term of training in our Primary/Intermediate leagues

  3. Achieve Level 1 Criteria in order to be remunerated

Intro/Beginners Referee Course

Franklin Basketball is offering two training courses for people who would like to become basketball referees.

Beginner Referees will be supported in an encouraging, protected manner and will have the opportunity to develop their skills and move through the basketball New Zealand refereeing pathway. This course is being supported by Basketball NZ.

Part One is aimed at not only anyone who is keen to become a referee but also any Player, Coach, Manager or Parent who wishes to learn more about the rules and the game.

Part Two is the practical aspects of Refereeing for those who want to begin their referee journey.
