Referees
Referees are such an important part of the game as the game cannot take place without them so we are constantly developing new referees for all levels of the game within our region as well as for Basketball New Zealand tournaments.
Our process for new referees is:
-
Take part in our Beginner Referee Course,
-
One term of training in our Primary/Intermediate leagues,
-
Achieve Level 1 Criteria in order to be remunerated.
Upcoming Courses
Kiwi Hoops Referee Course - Beginner/Intro
Franklin Basketball is offering a training course for people who would like to become basketball referees. This course is aimed at beginner referees who do not necessarily have to have any basketball experience. Some knowledge of the game is of course helpful.
There is no cost for this training and all participants will be provided with all training materials - just bring along a pen and paper for notes. Beginner referees will be supported in an encouraging, protected manner and will have the opportunity to develop their skills and move through the basketball New Zealand refereeing pathway. This course is being supported by Basketball NZ.
When: Saturday 11th February 9:30am-12:30pm
Where: Franklin Pool & Leisure Centre
Who: Open to anyone Year 7 and above
What to wear: Comfortable clothing and shoes to move around in
What to bring: Pen, whistle
**Anyone intending to continue refereeing should purchase a BLACK Fox40 Classic
whistle with a BLACK lanyard. Rebel sport have these for around $15, otherwise
Bonanza (store next to Kathmandu) has a $3 replica version which does the job.
