Coach Accelerator Program taking flight!

A couple of weeks ago, we started our first ever Coach Accelerator Program in partnership with Basketball NZ. Our Coach & Player Development Officer, Joe Reddish, is working with 10 coaches who are involved in various Franklin programs along with with coaches Jamie Reddish & Samara Funnell joining the group as mentors.

This program is designed around 4 workshops covering a range of topics to help stimulate coaches thinking, on court sessions, 1 on 1 coaches catch-ups all with a focus on holistic development. Coaches will also will be working on building their own long term development and plans.

In the very first session, the coaches broke down the outlines of the course, began to develop their individualised Coaching Development Plan and outlined what it takes to be a coach of the sport.

Last week we welcomed special guest Chris Oliver for taking the time to share the game with our coaches.

In this workshop Chris discussed some ideas/concepts around “Classroom Management”

Chris talked about the importance of establishing a safe learning environment, ways we can increase active learning time and stimulated some great discussion around how to best teach>connect>transfer.

If you don’t already follow @basketball immersion you are missing out! Keep an eye out NZ 🇳🇿🏀 for upcoming announcements

This program will help create a stronger coaching network & culture within our community.

Big thanks to Basketball NZ Community Team - Amy McClintock and Nicola Post for supporting this Initiative and see it roll out nationally soon!
